Leadership can be defined as one's ability to get others to
willingly follow.
Every organization needs leaders at every level.
"Good business leaders create a vision, articulate the
vision, passionately own the vision and relentlessly drive it to
completion." as said by Jack Welch, former chairman and CEO of General
Electric Co.
A leader must be able to communicate his or her vision
in terms that cause followers to buy into it. He or she must communicate
clearly and passionately, as passion is contagious.
A good objective of leadership is to
help those who are doing poorly to do well and to help those who are doing well
to do even better.
The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to
do what he wants done, and self-restraint to keep from meddling with them while
they do it.
Leadership is solving problems. The
day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped
leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help or concluded
you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership.
Judgment of the people in the
situation is not helpful. How can you help them is the question.
A leader does not suffer “analysis paralysis” but is always doing something
in pursuit of the vision, inspiring others to do the same.
Integrity , Magnanimity , Creativity , Assertiveness and a Sense of humor are some important traits which anyone can develop to be a good leader.
The key to successful leadership today is influence, not authority.
"Leadership
is intentional influence."
