"Leadership is INTENTIONAL INFLUENCE and leaders does not suffer ANALYSIS PARALYSIS."

Leadership can be defined as one's ability to get others to willingly follow

Every organization needs leaders at every level.
"Good business leaders create a vision, articulate the vision, passionately own the vision and relentlessly drive it to completion." as said by Jack Welch, former chairman and CEO of General Electric Co.

A leader must be able to communicate his or her vision in terms that cause followers to buy into it. He or she must communicate clearly and passionately, as passion is contagious.

A good objective of leadership is to help those who are doing poorly to do well and to help those who are doing well to do even better.

The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint to keep from meddling with them while they do it.

Leadership is solving problems. The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help or concluded you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership.

Judgment of the people in the situation is not helpful. How can you help them is the question.

A leader does not suffer “analysis paralysis” but is always doing something in pursuit of the vision, inspiring others to do the same.

Integrity , Magnanimity , Creativity , Assertiveness and a Sense of humor are some important traits which anyone can develop to be a good leader.

The key to successful leadership today is influence, not authority.

 "Leadership is intentional influence."

Don’t Worry About Your First Job - Recent Graduates

Recent graduates, take note:
Few people start their work life in the right place. So don’t stress about your first job out of college. Chances are it’s not going to predict your future field, income, or career path. Instead of looking for the perfect job, look for these three things:
  • Opportunities to learn. Whatever job you take, you should acquire new skills and experience.
  • Enough money. You don’t have to be a banker. Waiting tables is perfectly respectable if it affords you the time and flexibility to do what you care about.
  • Chances to contribute. Everyone wants to feel a sense of purpose. Find a position that allows you to be a force for good. If you can’t find a job that fits the bill, volunteer on the side.

Expertise can be noticed more easily@Online @ Social Media: Tips

You've heard the horror stories: a job applicant gets turned down because his potential employer discovered his objectionable tweets, or saw pictures of his keg party on Facebook. There is a lot of advice out there about keeping your online activity from hurting your career. But there's a flip side. When handled correctly, social media can help you professionally. You can use it to enhance your personal brand, establish yourself as an expert in a field, or demonstrate fluency with all things digital. The key is to be proactive about managing your activity and image.

It used to be that people were deemed to be experts based on their titles, years of experience, or length of their CVs. While those things are still important, especially in some circles, they're no longer the only ways to show credibility. "Status is much more democratic now. Expertise can be noticed more easily," says Soumitra Dutta, a professor in business and technology at INSEAD.

When it comes to advancing your career, there are three things social media is particularly suited for:
Building your personal brand.
Demonstrating your proficiency with all things digital.
Learning from your digital network
Once you've committed to using social media for professional purposes, it is easy to get started. Here are three things to do:
Figure out what space you want to play in.
Establish a presence.

420 Japanese companies located in India generate more than 1.5 lakh jobs in India.

Japanese Prime Minister Mr Yoshihiko Noda, the Commerce, Industry and Textiles Minister Mr Anand Sharma CII ,FICCI, Assocham  meeting

- Sectors to be focussed by Japanses Companies - Agriculture , Infrastructure, Electronic hardware and pharma high end manufacturing.

There are around 420 Japanese companies located in India and they have helped generate more than 1.5 lakh jobs in India.

For Indian healthcare and pharma industry, especially the generics sector,  accessing the Japanese market will be huge oppurtunity.

Japanese Technology ,Knowledge , investments and Expertise is being   focused on agriculture, agro-processing and food-processing to build an entire integrated value chain to develop 46 fully-equipped agro-processing zones or parks in India.

In the coming Five Year Plan (2013-17) projected investment in India’s infrastructure sector (including ports, airports and power projects)  is over $1 trillion - it will be another area of opportunity for Japanese companies.

Japanese government has committed $4.5 billion for the implementation of the $90 billion Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project. Japanese companies have decided to invest in six smart cities coming up along the DMIC. The Centre had earlier decided to allocate Rs 18,500 crore for financing the DMIC’s trunk infrastructure.

Though India is a leader in IT and ITeS, it is in electronic hardware where India is going to invest. That is an ambition as the Govt is accelerating  efforts in (boosting) manufacturing.

Japan also has another huge opportunity in the recently announced National Manufacturing Policy which envisages encouragement of green technologies and to bring up integrated industrial townships for high-end manufacturing.

A typical question in Interview " WHY SHOULD WE HIRE YOU"

A question many people face in interviews.

How would you respond?

Nervous to attend tomorrow's Job Interview - Relax

Nervous to attend tomorrows Job Interview:

Filled with negativism, you don't know how to calm your nerves.
Well firstly, don't put too much pressure on yourself and simply relax
Even if you are not able to answer a few questions it's not the end of the world!
If things don t go your way, there are many more interviews you can attend
Although most people are nervous to some extent, appearing nervous in an interview may hurt your chances
Successful job seekers appear confident and self-assured. Even though you may not feel that way inside, there are some things you can do to cope.

If you can identify the reasons why you might feel nervous, you may be able to keep yourself calm and composed. Some of the reasons that may be making your nervous are listed below with possible solutions to calm yourself:

Fear of the new job
You may be nervous because you maybe applying for a job for the first time or applying in a field which is totally new to you, or applying for one in an unfamiliar environment or company. It is OK to be nervous but remember that everywhere you have ever worked was new at one time and if this is your first job then you have to begin someday and being nervous is not going to help. Focus on the positives and look at this as a potential new adventure.

Social anxiety
If you are nervous about the people that you are going to work with and the work environment then this experience is called social anxiety. Well you need not be nervous about that coz it will take you a few days to adjust to your new work environment and all you have to keep in mind that everyone there working with you is human. You are worthy of attention from the interviewer, so convey all your skills and accomplishments.

Fear of the competition
This is a deep-set fear in the minds of almost all job seekers. You may have think that your qualification is not worth enough for the job expectations and maybe everyone applying for the job deserve the post. But you are wrong. Never underestimate yourself and remember everyone probably shares that fear, to some degree. Many of these applicants are probably as nervous or more nervous than you are. Once you are there, remember that you have just as good a chance as anyone else applying for that job. Knowing that may help you to put things into perspective.

Lack of confidence
Many job seekers lack confidence and are not bold enough to face interviews openly and courageously. Well remember one thing that confidence is the key to success and if you are not confident about your skills and capabilities then you will never succeed in life.

Performance anxiety
You probably will be asked some questions that may be challenging, and you may be afraid that you will freeze or give an incorrect answer. Well to overcome this anxiety all you have to do is prepare yourself thoroughly. Think your answers through beforehand and if possible, research what type of questions this company asks during the interview.
Preparation will help to dispel fear and will make you feel more confident and composed.

500 drug companies told to pay Rs 4,000 cr penalty for over charging - Economic Times

NEW DELHI: More than 500 Indian drug companies will have to collectively pay over Rs 4,000 crore in dues after a high court shot down their petition challenging penalty notices sent by drug authorities for overcharging. Special counsel for the government, GR Sharma, said companies will have to collectively pay Rs 4,000-5,000 crore, which includes an initial principal amount and interest.

The department of pharmaceuticals had sent notices to several drug companies in 1996 for selling bulk drugs at prices higher than those fixed by the government. At that time, prices were governed by the Drug Price Control Order of 1979, which was repealed later. Judges PB Majmudar and RM Savant of the Bombay High Court last week dismissed the industry lobby body's petition challenging the penalty notices.

The Indian Drug Manufacturers' Association (IDMA), which has more than 700 members, had said the government cannot demand a penalty after the pricing order has been repealed. Also, the department does not have some data related to the violation that occurred several years ago.

The Centre replaced the drug pricing order of 1979 with another in 1987, and then brought in a new one in 1995, which is still in effect. In defence, the department argued that it had to conduct its own market research, collect data and verify cases of overcharging, which is a long process.

Buoyed by the high court order, the department is likely to seek reopening of 26 similar cases where individual companies have moved court and obtained a stay. "We will move court to apply the same order to these 26 cases," said Sharma.

Meanwhile, IDMA Secretary General Daara Patel said the penalty will be much less than the government counsel's estimate and pegged it at just over Rs 1,000 crore.

Global pharma consultants caution India on Chinese threat in generic drugs

Global pharma consultants caution India on Chinese threat in generic drugs

Nandita Vijay, Bengaluru - Pharma BIZ
Tuesday, December 27, 2011, 08:00 Hrs  [IST]

Indian pharma industry needs to keep cognizant of the China's capability in the production of generics. As the dragon country is known for its huge manufacturing capacity embedded with the advanced technology, there is every chance that Indian pharma companies could fall behind going the growing Chinese threat, according to global pharma consultants.

Although in the current context India is known for its quality standards and delivery timelines, the Indian pharma industry cannot rest on these laurels.  Among the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) nations, China is already far ahead of the rest. The Chinese market grew at 20 per cent in 2010 compared to 11 – 15 per cent in others. Incremental growth of pharma market estimated at $ 40 billion by 2014 compared to $5 -$15 billion in other countries. With public private partnerships, Chinese GDP  was $9 trillion in 2009 compared to $2-4 trillion in others. In fact, China offers products at prices 5 -15 per cent lower than the other BRIC countries. The Chinese government directly and indirectly plans funding of $125 billion in the next five years, stated the consultants who were in India for the 63rd Indian Pharmaceutical Congress (IPC) held in Bangalore last week.

Multinational companies like Merck, GSK, Novartis, Bayer, Johnson & Johnson, Sanofi and others have slated foreign direct investments (FDIs) to the tune of billions of dollars into R&D in China, apart from outsourcing.

“There is a stealthy and surreptitious watch over India by pharma companies in China. Just like how they swayed their supremacy in India for the sale of active pharmaceutical ingredients(APIs), leaving the domestic players in the fray, the same could happen in the area of generics,” Dr Vinod P Shah pharma consultant, USA told Pharmabiz.

Currently Indian pharma cannot clutch contract manufacture and research orders based on cost-effectiveness and quality, there needs to be concrete efforts in drug development, focus on organic chemistry synthesis and   strong intellectual property (IP). China has already made inroads in new drug development and is way ahead of India in production of biotech drugs on a large scale. A number of presentations in the US made by the companies chiefs from pharma majors in China are a clear indication that they are much ahead of India, he added.

However, on the negative side of the Chinese success story does point out to scores of quality issues, difficulty in comprehending and communicating in English which could stall growth at a slower pace. Indian pharma needs to capitalize on the inherent strengths in chemistry, technology and manpower and without cutting corners on quality and safety be able to face the Chinese onslaught in the generics opportunity space, said Dr Shah.

Besides addressing the supply of generic drugs to the global markets ensuing out of the patents worth $60 billion expiry by 2012 offering a market of $73 billion opportunity in the space, we need to arm expertise in the area of synthetic and bio-generic drugs, look more closely at the development of alternate systems of medicines and gear up for back office for IP related and regulatory submissions, stated Dr Samba Reddy, pharma consultant in US.

How to Talk About Your Weaknesses in an Interview

How to Talk About Your Weaknesses in an Interview
One of the most hated, yet frequently asked, interview questions is, "What is your greatest weakness?" We all have faults, but the last place we want to talk about them is in a job interview. Next time you are up for a job, take these three steps to prepare for this dreaded question:
·         Prepare an answer. Yes, you need one. Make it brief, honest, trivial, and not a fault. If possible, use something out of your control. For example, "My biggest weakness is that my professional network is in Boston, but I'm looking to relocate to Los Angeles."
·         Get input. Run your answer by a few friends and colleagues to make sure it sounds reasonable.
·         Ask a question back. In the interview, deflect the attention away from you by ending your response with a question for the interviewer.
